GK proudly sponsored The Nastia Liukin Cup for the fourth consecutive year.  This year's competition took place on Friday, March 1st, at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts after an exciting lead up of qualifying competitions as part of the Nastia Liukin Cup Series.  A select number of gymnasts from each invitational advanced to the Nastia Liukin Cup.  Alex McMurtry of Midlothian, Virginia/Richmond Olympiad Gymnastics, won the all-around title Friday night after an exciting come-from-behind finish. This was McMurty's third straight Nastia Liukin Cup appearance, but this year she posted a 38.450 for the win.  Aja-Monet Sims of Clermont, Florida/Brandy Johnson's, 38.175, and Samantha Partyka of Katy, Texas/Champions Gymnastics Academy, 38.075, took second and third. 

GK was excited to provide each participant with a Nastia Liukin-designed tank leotard, competition leotard, and warm-up. In addition to their gymnastics apparel, each athlete got to meet and have their photo taken with Nastia and received 2 tickets to the 2013 American Cup.  Click here for some great photographs of Nastia handing out the GK gymnastics apparel to the participants.

For training, participants received a GK tank gymnastics leotard with a classic neck line and elegant strappy back. The workout leotards were either Berry Slither with Black Mystique applique and binding, or Black Mystique with Berry Slither applique and binding.  The competition leotard followed suit with equally classic styling.  Each long sleeved leotard was either Berry Slither with Black Mystique applique or Black Mystique with Berry Slither applique.  All of the leotards were perfectly finished with the GK Nastia Liukin logo.

The athletes received a beautiful Black Velvet and Silver Mystique warm up jacket and coordinating black velvet warm-up pant.  The back of the warm up jacket was embellished with the Nastia Liukin Cup name and logo.

Proceeds from the event go to the Nastia Liukin Fund, a charitable fund within the National Gymnastics Foundation with the goal of partnering with fitness-oriented programs for young people and supporting clubs that aid athletes who need financial assistance to remain or become involved in gymnastics.

GK is delighted to announce the addition of Gabrielle Douglas to its premier roster of GK Champions. In July of 2012, Gabrielle, who is coached by Liang Chow at Chow's Gymnastics in Des Moines, Iowa, became the first African-American gymnast in Olympic history to become the Individual All-Around Champion as well as the first American gymnast to win the gold medal in both the Individual All-Around and the Team Competition during the same Olympic Games.

Each year USA Gymnastics hosts the National Congress & Trade Show and each year GK is there.  This year was extra exciting with the Olympic Trials going and GK was front and center at the show with their super-sized booth!  The best of GK gymnastic apparel was on display.  All of our gymnastic leotards were showcased for coaches, gym owners, athletes, and fans to touch and see up close.  Lots of people were excited to see a leotard that they had on order.  Others were looking for inspiration for their next design or purchase.  Many people were checking out the latest Back To School Workout Essentials leotards.  From Special Order to In Stock, Ultimate Brilliance to GK Couture, GymTek to GKids - there were lots of gymnastics leotards to ooh and ahh over.  Our new Engineered Art line and the unbelievable Free Sequinz Promo had everyone talking.

The World Olympic Gymnastics Academy ("WOGA"), home to two back-to-back Olympic Gold medalists, Nastia Liukin and Carly Patterson, hosted its annual WOGA Classic February 18-19, 2012 in Frisco, Texas.  The WOGA Classic has a long standing history as one of the largest gymnastics competitions, continually drawing top athletes from across the nation and the world.

Flashes of beautiful pink and black GK gymnastics leotards were everywhere at the 3rd Annual Nastia Liukin Cup, Friday, March 2, 2012 at New York City's Madison Square Garden.  GK is proud to have sponsored the Nastia Liukin Cup for the third consecutive year.  The Nastia Liukin Cup has grown every year in its endeavor to provide a high level competition opportunity for top Junior Olympians.  Qualifiers for the event are held throughout the year leading up to the competition as part of the Nastia Liukin Cup Series lending even more valuable experience for young gymnasts that they might not have otherwise.

34 athletes earned a spot at the competition in 2012 and were outfitted by GK with a tank leotard, a long sleeve competition leotard, and warm ups.  In addition, each competitor got to meet and have their picture taken with Nastia! The tank leo was made of Berry Storm and Black Mystique fabric and the competition leotards were made of Berry and Black Mystique fabric.  Sparkle was added to each leotard with heat-transferred jewels. 

Charity Jones from Dynamo Gymnastics in Miami, Oklahoma captured this year's coveted Nastia Liukin Cup title.  Charity posted a score of 38.075 capturing the All Around win.  Congratulations Charity!

Congratulations Nastia Liukin!  USA Gymnastics announced Nastia's addition to the Senior Women's U.S. National Team on November 23, 2011.  The 2008 Olympic Champion and GK Endorsed Athlete revealed her gymnastics comeback in October at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo. 

Training Camp at the National Team training center was the next step for Nastia.  Her camp performance was proof positive of her gymnastics comeback securing her spot on the National Team.  Recently, GK spoke with Nastia about her comeback and the road to London 2012.

GK:  Congratulations, Nastia!  We heard the great news that you are back on the US Women's National Team.  How do you feel?

NL:  Thank you so much! I feel honored to be part of the National Team again and hopefully I will have the opportunity to compete and represent the USA very soon. I'm taking it one day at a time and sticking to the plan my dad has put together for me.

GK:  What made you decide to come back after all of your success out of the gym?

NL:  I never really let go of the idea of coming back to train. I've been really busy and have traveled a lot the past few years. I am so blessed to have many opportunities, but I realized that I cannot do everything all at once as it is all very time consuming. So, I decided that I owe it to myself to give training everything I have for the next 8 months.  As July 2012 approaches, I want to look back knowing I did everything I could and have no regrets.

GK:  What is your training schedule like now?

NL:  My training schedule is back to "normal.”  I start my morning training at 7:30 with running and then I head to the gym to train until noon.  Then I come back for the afternoon training session from 3-6 p.m.  In between trainings, I go to physical therapy and acupuncture. I have been training this schedule since I was about 10 years old.  It has worked for me in the past so I wouldn't want to change anything. 

GK:  How are your workouts structured?  What do you do outside of the gymnastics gym?

NL:  Lately, I've been spending most of my time in the gym. When I’m outside the gym, I normally rest and get ready for my next training session.  Sunday is my day off and I like to spend time with my friends and family, catch up on work emails, and maybe do a little shopping!

GK:  Since winning the All-Around title in 2008, how is your comeback approach different as you look toward the 2012 games?

NL:  My approach working toward 2012 has changed, but has also stayed the same. I am older this time around, so training feels a little different everyday. I also know exactly what lies ahead of me for the next 8 months. I know what the process is like trying to make an Olympic Team, but knowing that doesn't necessarily make it any easier. It's still a stressful and nerve-wracking process. What has stayed the same is giving it my all every single day and having a daily goal of being able to walk out of the gym at 6pm every night knowing that it was a productive training day and I'm another step closer to achieving another dream. 

GK:  Is it harder this time around?

NL:  It is definitely harder this time around because in 2008, I had been training my whole life for that moment. Then I took a few years off, and I'm back at it again. So it's been a whole different process this year.  I'm really excited for the journey and what lies ahead.

GK: Tell us about your inspiration for your Nastia Liukin Gold Medal Collection.

NL:  I feel like the inspiration for my line comes from many different things. I love fashion, so I definitely keep up with the latest fashion and color trends for the seasons.  I also love doing something completely different and out of the element, something that is eye‑catching that will make a unique leotard.
