Last Friday the Future Stars of Mens Gymnastics competed in USA-Gymnastics Future Stars National Championships at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs Colorado. As a long time supported of USA-Gymnastics development programs, GK again dontated Gymnastics Warm Up Suits to all participants (Athletes and coaches) at the event!

The Future Stars program is designed is to identify talented athletes and to get them started on the right developmental path to national and international success. The program uses a special competitive routine format to evaluate the skill, strength and flexibility development of the athlete.

The Future Stars National Championships features the USA’s best 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds in the United States who perform special Future Stars competitive routines. Based on the results at the championships, USA Gymnastics identifies the Future Stars Developmental Team, which includes the top 18 gymnasts in both the 10- and 11-year-old divisions and 14 gymnasts in the 12-year-old division. The top nine athletes in the 10- and 11-year-old divisions and the top seven athletes in the 12-year-old division will be invited to a special Future Stars camp to be held at the USOTC next summer.
The Future Stars National Championships are held in conjunction with the National Coaches Workshop, the premier educational event for the men’s program. In addition to the competition, Future Stars athletes and their parents will be able to participate in workshop activities that feature lectures, technical presentations, and hands-on coaching sessions. Presenters include Junior National Coaching Staff members, National Team coaches, sports science personnel, USOC staff and special guests.

The world’s best trampoline and tumbling gymnasts who have converged on St. Petersburg, Russia, for the 2009 World Trampoline and Tumbling Championships, Nov. 11-14, at the St. Petersburg Sports and Concert Complex. Qualification rounds begin on Nov. 11, with finals on Nov. 12-14.
GK Endorsee Michael Devine will be among the US Team delegation in St Petersburg. Universal Sports will carry same-day coverage of the finals on Nov. 13-14 on universalsports.com. Universal Sports also will air a highlights show on its TV network later in November. During the competition, results, photos and other information will be available on usa-gymnastics.org.
For the various qualification rounds, the U.S. gymnasts are in the following groups: men’s trampoline, 7 (of 7); women’s trampoline, 5 (of 6); men’s tumbling, 3 (of 4); women’s tumbling, 3 (of 3); men’s double mini-trampoline, 3 (of 4); women’s double mini, 2 (of 3); men’s synchronized trampoline, 1 (Dooley/Gluckstein) and 3 (White/Devine) (of 3); and women’s synchro, 1 (of 2).
The U.S. Team for World Championships was determined by placement in the World Championships Selection Points System. Athletes gained points based on placements at three events: U.S. Elite Challenge; Visa Championships; and the Final Selection Event, which concluded on Sept. 26. The top two athletes in the selection system rankings automatically qualified for the team and additional athletes were named by the selection committee.

Belgian Trampoline and Tumbling phenom Joris Geens was recently featured in an article in the Gazet Van Antwerpen. This interview was in anticipation of his next competition in St Petersburg, where he will represent Belgium at the 26th World Championships in trampoline, tumbling, and double mini-trampoline (DMT). The event will take place at the 25,000-seat St Petersburg Sports-Concert Complex (a.k.a., Peterburgsky Sport Concert Complex) on November 11-14, 2009.

De achttienjarige Joris Geens uit Duffel neemt als eerste Vlaming deel aan het wereldkampioenschap trampolinespringen. Dat vindt van 11 tot 15 november plaats in Sint-Petersburg Rusland.
Joris Geens doet al elfjaar aan trampolinespringen Leuk, maar kiezen zevenjarige jongetjes doorgaans niet voor het voetbalveld? "Ik dusn iet",l acht Geens. "Ik deed al een poosje aan gymnastiek toen mijn ouders me er op wezen dat trampolinespringen een boeiende takvan die sport is. Ik probeerde het, en kijk: de microbe had me meteen te pakken. Nukan ik me nog moeilijk een leven indenken zondertrampoline."
Geen lachertje trouwens, dat springen. Want net zoals in het wielrennen of de atletiek komt een mens er niet met een kwartiertje training per dag." Fysiek is het erg zwaar: je moet conditioneel echt top zijn. En daarnaast gaat trampolinespringen natuurlijk vooral om precisie en coórdinatie. Je moet dingen durven, maar tegelijk mag je op geen enkel moment de controle verliezen over je lichaam."
Realistisch
Geens is de jeugdreeksen ontgroeid en maakt nu zijn eerste seizoen door bij de seniors. En hij behaalde dus meteen de limiet voor deelname aan het wereldkamnioenschap, waar hij mete en zelf uitgewerkte reeks van salto's, schroeven en ander acrobatisch werk de jury moet overtuigen." In november reis ik naar Sint-Petersburg. Mijn ambities probeer ik vooral realistisch uit te tekenen. In Vlaanderen ben ik de beste springer, maar op het wereldtoneel moet ik nog niet meteen dromen van een medaille. Dat is sowieso wat te hoos gegrepen in je eerste jaar als senior. Maar ik hoop toch bij de eerste twintig te eindigen."
Is dat wereldkampioenschap op zich al een hoogtepunt, dan blijft er toch nog een grote droom over. "De Olympische Spelen", klinkt het enthousiast. "Je daarvoor kwalificeren blijft toch de ultieme fantasie van elke topsporter. Sinds 2000 is trampolinespringen een officiële discipline op de Spelen. Ik hoop dat ik daar ooit Belgiè magvertegenwoordigen, Maar ik ben niet haastig in m'n ambities: er ligt nog een hele carrière voor mij."
Toch zal Geens allicht nooit het beleg op zijn boterham verdienen met de trampoline alleen. "Klopt: trampolinespringen is niet meteen iets waar massaal veel aandacht aan besteed wordt in biivoorbeeld de media. Daarom begin ik dit jaar ook in Gent aan een studie kinesitherapie. Soms vind ik het wel jammer dat we zo uit de spotlights blijven. Het is tenslotte een volwaardige sporttak waar je veel talent en doorzettingsvermogen voor nodig hebt, en bovendien is dat springen nog spectaculair om naar te kijken ook. Maar goed, ik doe hetn aturirlijk in die eerste plaats voor mezelf: op die trampoline vind ik mijn geluk."

The Danish team of Peter Jensen and Daniel Praest won the Silver medal in Mens Synchronized Trampoline at the in the fifth and final World Cup. The 2009 Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup Series was held at the Amselstieg Sports Hall in Salzgitter, Germany.
GK is the official tumbling apparel sponsor of the Trampoline and Tumbling Team of Denmark. GK provides gymnastics and tumbling clothes for the team including comp shirts, gymnasitcs pants and gymnastics shorts.
The Salzgitter World Cup, the last leg of the World Cup Series, determined the winners of the 2009 World Cup Series, which is based on the four best World Cup results of each gymnast. Gymnasts collect World Cup points ranging from 50 points for the 1st place to 6 pts for the 16th place. The previous legs of these 2009 World Cup Series took place in Loule, Portugal, last September; in Sofia, Bulgaria, in April; in Ostend, Belgium, in August; and in Zielona Gora, Poland, last weekend.
The World Cup format features a preliminary round, with the top eight gymnasts or pairs advancing to the finals (a maximum of two individuals or one pair per country may advance in final).
In 2008 GK introduced to the Gymnastics world a new Mens gymnastics compression shirt that has met with rave reviews. Before this shirt, the options for mens gymnastics were limited to mens comp shirts (essentially a leotard for guys), gymnastics shorts and gymnastics pants. And for Competition, these garments are the only "legal" options, according to FIG rules - if an event is FIG sanctioned.
But what else do boys and men wear for gymnastics - around the gym or in practice? T-shirts and gym shorts are not always practical or form fitting enough.

WASSENAAR, 31 AUGUSTUS 2009 – Vandaag heeft ZKH Prins Willem-Alexander uit handen van voormalig topschaatser en tweevoudig winnaar van Olympisch goud in Salt Lake City Jochem Uytdehaage, het postzegelvel ‘Sporttop: aandacht voor talent’ ontvangen. Bij de overhandiging waren Ger Jacobs, commercieel directeur van TNT Post en het turntalent Anthony van Assche aanwezig. De overhandiging vond plaats op De Eikenhorst in Wassenaar, het woonhuis van de Prins van Oranje.
Jochem Uytdehaage is initiatiefnemer van de Stichting Sporttop. Uit eigen ervaring weet hij dat de weg naar de top lang is. Hij ontmoet regelmatig sporttalenten die hun top niet halen. Gebrek aan de juiste begeleiding is een veelvoorkomende oorzaak. Dat was voor hem aanleiding om Sporttop op te richten, met als doel jonge, potentieel Olympische sporttalenten te helpen op weg naar hun top. De talenten worden begeleid door (ex-) topsporters die hieraan vrijwillig hun medewerking verlenen. Uytdehaage zelf is de mentor van Anthony van Assche.

TNT Post is sinds een jaar hoofdsponsor van Sporttop. TNT Post heeft gekozen voor dit hoofdsponsorschap omdat ‘aandacht voor talent’ aansluit bij de eigen filosofie. Ger Jacobs: "We dragen de gedachte van het ondersteunen van jong talent naar de (Olympische) top een warm hart toe. De samenwerking biedt ons de mogelijkheid een breed scala aan activiteiten te ontwikkelen voor onze medewerkers en onze klanten. Zo heeft TNT Post inmiddels een eigen Talentenfonds opgericht om sporttalenten onder medewerkers of hun kinderen financieel te ondersteunen, met als doel de sportcarrière te versnellen".
Motiveren, adviseren, inspireren
Bij Sporttop draait de begeleiding van talenten om motiveren, adviseren en inspireren", aldus Jeroen van Erp, creatief directeur van bureau Fabrique en samen met Twan Minten en Nils Mengedoht verantwoordelijk voor het ontwerp van het postzegelvel ‘Sporttop: aandacht voor talent’. Fabrique koos voor het weergeven van korte citaten van talent en mentor. Zo geeft Anthony van Assche het belang van goede begeleiding kernachtig weer met: ‘Alleen naar de top is onmogelijk’. Zijn mentor Jochem Uytdehaage stelt: ‘Ik spiegel Anthony de verschillende keuzes voor’.
De benodigde ruimte voor de teksten is ontstaan door deze diagonaal weer te geven. Deze oplossing brengt tegelijkertijd de gewenste dynamiek in én onderstreept het sportieve karakter van het postzegelvel. Alle lijnen wijzen van linksonder naar rechtsboven, waarmee de symbolische opgaande lijn in de carrière van de talenten tot uitdrukking komt.
Van Erp: "Op het postzegelvel moest ook met één blik duidelijk zijn wie mentor is en wie talent. Dat hebben we onder meer bereikt door het kleurgebruik. De mentor volgt het talent van enige afstand. Dit maakt een neutrale rol mogelijk om weloverwogen adviezen te kunnen geven. Om die rol te onderstrepen hebben we de mentoren in neutraal zwart-wit afgebeeld. Zij staan helemaal rechts in beeld, zeg maar aan de zijlijn, met in hun houding alle aandacht voor het talent. Het talent zelf is in full colour afgebeeld. Die speelt de hoofdrol. Zo is bij elk koppel duidelijk hoe de relatie in elkaar steekt." Ontwerper
Fabrique is een multidisciplinair communicatie- en designbureau, dat uiteenlopende opdrachten uitvoert voor culturele instellingen, consumentenmerken, dienstverlenende bedrijven, overheid, onderwijs en entertainmentbranche. In 2008 ontwierpen zij voor TNT Post het postzegelvel ‘12 maanden jarig’.Verkoopprijs, oplage, verkrijgbaarheid en geldigheid van de postzegels
De verkoopprijs van ‘Sporttop: aandacht voor talent’ is € 4,40 per postzegelvel. Het vel verschijnt in een oplage van 320.000 velletjes. Ieder vel bevat 10 postzegels met een frankeerwaarde van € 0,44. De postzegels zijn zolang de voorraad strekt, verkrijgbaar bij de Collect Club in Groningen, via de Onlinewinkel op tntpost.nl/collectclub en bij reguliere verkooppunten. De geldigheid van de postzegels voor de frankering is onbepaald. Er verschijnen ook een postzegelmapje en een eerstedagenvelop.
