Béla Károlyi to Guest Star On Make It or Break It

Gymnastics Super-coach Béla Károlyi will guest star on the hit gymnastics television show Make It or Break It for its final summer season episode, Tuesday August 31st. Béla will play the father of The Rock coach Sasha Belov. Will Béla come to The Rock to offer advice to the gymnasts?

Coach Károlyi is an institution in gymnastics. He rose to fame in the 1970's after coaching Romanian Gymnast Nadia Comăneci to perfect 10's in the 1976 Olympics. He moved to the United States in the 1980's, and coached Mary Lou Retton in 1984, as well as the US National Team through1996. He and his wife Marta (today's National Team Coach) remain active in American Gymnastics and operate a Gymnastics Ranch outside of Houston Texas.

Coach Károlyi was recently in Hartford, CT attending the USA-Gymnastics National Congress and 2010 Visa Championships, where the 2000 US Women's National Gymnastics team was officially honored with their Bronze Medals.

Everyday Champions - KAF Rulz!!!

All of our girls compete in the 'Mystique Curls' leotard, and we have used this as our team competitive leotard for the past 2 years. Our kids compete in Acrobatic Gymnastics; we actually have 3 teams that have qualified and will be attending the Region 3 Championships on June 19th in New Orleans.

Our gym is not like many others, we teach to 'special needs' children. One of our competitive teams is a brother and sister combo (both with special needs), which will be one of the teams competing at Regionals. They just recently placed 1st at the Texas State Championship and they have been competing with the 'Regular Contenders' from the beginning. Our other two teams are also 2nd and 3rd place Texas State winners, with one team already qualifying for the Junior Olympic Natinal Championships.

To see the faces of these girls when they put their gk leotards on is extrodinary. You can just see a light switch turn on in them as if 'normal kid off-super star kid on'. I greatly enjoy working with these kids and watching them perform and grow as gymnast. Thanks gk for soaking confidence into every leo.

Everyday Champions - 2010 Pink Invitational~Gymnasts Unite

2010 Pink Invitational~Gymnasts Unite. What a weekend! The girls really enjoyed themselves, having the experience of competing in the sport they love, while giving to those in need. The unity of the gymnasts was absolutely inspiring. But what was equally inspiring was the outpouring of support we received from our coaching and judging community. We experienced plenty of weather obstacles on Friday, and with your generous sense of cooperation we were committed to make it work and accommodate as many girls as possible. Despite the many challenges we faced, your patience and flexibility at our event were so evident and we felt honored to work with you. Thank you for helping us make this happen. Here is an overview of the Pink Invitational.

This weekend we had over almost 1,500 girls compete from 55 gyms across the region; all wearing the same GK Elite pink leo and representing the unity that we strive for in our community.

These personalized gymnastics leotards was specially developed for the Pink Invitational using our Cotton Candy Tye Dye foil fabric with a custom glass Breast Cancer Awareness jewel on the front.

The Above and Beyond Club was yet another indication of how committed you all are to making our event a huge success, clearly making this not just our meet, but also your meet.

Twenty-two teams took the challenge and we raised close to $30,000 through car washes, sleepovers, cartwheel-a-thons and more.

The top three lead fundraisers were:

• Gym Dandy's raised $6,500
• Silvia's raised $1982.71
• NEGTC raised $1571

First Ever Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup

Competing were 36 gymnasts who traveled from 17 states across the country to participate. Proceeds from the event benefit the Nastia Liukin Fund, a charitable fund within the National Gymnastics Foundation.

The 36 young women were chosen to compete in the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup based on performances at the 15 invitationals that comprised the Nastia Liukin Cup Series. Each invitational selected a minimum of two athletes from the respective Level 10/open fields. The Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup is a partnership between Warner Bros. Consumer Products, USA Gymnastics and Liukin. Always aware of how much life has given her and determined to give back, Liukin is proud to host an event that helps fund the Nastia Liukin Fund. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., March 2, 2010 – The 36 gymnast field is now set for the 2010 Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup on March 5, 2010, at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. The final two competitors – Madison Krentz of Cave Creek, Ariz./Arizona Sunrays and Jaclyn McCartin of West Covina, Calif./Charter Oak Gliders – were selected this past weekend at the Long Beach (Calif.) Open. During seven weeks of competition, 36 gymnasts from 17 states were selected from the 15 invitationals in the Nastia Liukin Cup Series to compete in the inaugural Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup.

“It’s important for me to be able to give back to the gymnastics community that has supported me so much,” said 2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin of Parker, Texas. “The Supergirl Cup is a great way to give girls the chance to compete, shoot for their dreams, and let their inner Supergirl take flight.”

“We are so excited to be hosting the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup for these athletes,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “This event will allow some of our top Junior Olympic gymnasts to experience gymnastics like an elite athlete and provide a chance for them to mingle with some of the best in the sport. It is going to be a fun weekend in Worcester.”

Pink Invitational - Over 1500 Gymnasts Compete for the Cause

Over 1500 Gymnasts gathered in Eastern Pennsylvania for the Pink Invitational Gymnastics meet February 26-28. The Pink Invitational meet supports Unite For Her - in thier fight against Breast Cancer.

As the Official Apparel sponsor, GK provided Pink commemorative Pink Invitational Gymnastics Leotards for all participants. Over 1,500 girls compete from 55 gyms across the region; all wearing the same GK pink leo and representing the unity that we strive for in our community.

UNITE FOR HER is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women affected by breast cancer and their families, and sponsoring events providing hands on support and education.

Living Beyond Breast Cancer Donation

A national organization dedicated to empowering all women affected by breast cancer to live as long as possible with the best quality of life. Programs and services include Lbbc.org, Survivor’s Helpline 1-888 - 753 - LBBC (5222), conferences, teleconferences, networking programs, newsletters and recordings.

Gymnasts Unite Grants

This program was developed to ease the financial burden experienced by USAG women’s artistic gymnasts and their families due to breast cancer. Annually, up to three, $1,000 grants may be awarded. For more information or an application, please see below.

Wellness Days

Unite for HER, in partnership with local hospitals, will host Breast Cancer Wellness Days. The events will introduce patients to adjuvant therapies designed to help women become fully restored. Attendees will meet with medical, nutrition, counseling, and acupuncture professionals to learn about hands-on strategies that will support their health and wellness.

Education

Through the Pink Invitational-Gymnasts Unite event, our goal is to educate, empower and bring awareness to young women and girls about breast health care, nutrition, organic products, and healthy lifestyle choices, as well as raising funds for those affected by breast cancer.

Talk to me a bit about the Luikin Cup in Connecticut.

It’s the first year for it and we’ve been working on it since last summer. It’s all coming together and it’s something I’m really looking forward to also. It’s right outside of Boston and I’ll be there the week after next doing some promoting for it. I also just finished designing the leotards that the all girls will get with GK Elite so everyone will be getting a leotard and a warm up.

Sounds like you have a lot going on and it’s going to be a busy 2010 for you!

Yeah, I do have so many things, but everything is something I’m really looking forward to and I’m trying to balance it all. I’m excited about the Cup and Camp plus getting back in the gym, hopefully. It’s going to be a great year and I’m ready for it.

Everyday Champions - Leap for the Cure

On December 12, 2009 our gym, Leap of Faith Gymnastics, held our first annual "Leap for the Cure" Christmas Gym Shows in which we supported The American Cancer Society. Our three most advanced girls wore GK pink gymnastics leotards with the gold heart to represent The American Cancer Society (our daughter Laken Lewis is pictured with our donation tree).

In each show, the coaches and Advanced Gymnasts levels 4+ opened with "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." Laken performed beautifully each time to "Let it Snow" by Martina McBride. In addition, Gymnastics Level Ones, Twos and Threes, Leaping Lambs toddler class, and Advanced Cheer Tumble each performed to Christmas songs such as, "Jingle Bell Rock","Santa Baby" and "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas".

A goal of $500 was set for The American Cancer Society and we raised a Grand Total of $540.71! Together we raised the money by collecting donations at the door to "Fill Our Stocking", accepted community sponsorships from community businesses and sold $1 pink Christmas Ornaments to fill our tree, "In Honor of" or "In Remembrance of".

By the last show the six foot tree was overflowing with ornaments. People in our community are already asking when our next show will be and if they can come and watch! We would like to personally Thank everyone who so generously gave to help us go above and beyond our goal!More pictures from the event can be found on our website at www.leapoffaithgym.webs.com.
