By far the most popular gymnastics leotard neck and back option is the Scoop Back – Internally we call this a High Front Low Back leotard. But you would recognize it as a leo where the neckline in front is higher up and the back scoops down as seen on the GK Leotards Style #E1256 Citrus Swirl Tank Leotard pictured here - from GK’s 2009 Spring Essentials Leotards Line.

Though it is the most popular, it is not to say there is not a lot of variation. In fact we call this basic style by many different names, including: Scoop Back, Low Scoop, High Scoop, U-Back, HiLow – The list goes on and on. Each name indicates a little variability in the height and depth of the scoops as well as the height of the neckline and the width of the straps. The choice is usually decided based on the complexity of the leotard design. You can see some of these variations below.

When choosing gymnastics leotards for children and adults, girls and guys, a lot of the decision goes on comfort and personal preference. We keep adding as much beauty as we can muster. As you know, Gymnastics champ Shawn Johnson will compete on Dancing with the Stars (wearing beautiful dresses and not leotards), beginning next week (March 9th!). If you are like us, you want the inside scoop on what it's like. Shawn has started a blog with Inside Gymnastics Magazine. She will post regularly with her thoughts as feelings. Part of the inital post is below, in Shawn's Words.



Hi everyone!

So I can finally tell you all about Dancing With The Stars! I have been so excited, nervous, and anxious to tell and share the news and experience. It was so hard to keep the secret. I was given the invitation to be on the show in late November and had to say, "Yes!" immediately! It is a once in a lifetime opportunity that probably wouldn't have come again, and is one of the best experiences I could ever have.

As of right now, I have been training with my partner for about three weeks and am exhausted. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done - of course outside of gymnastics - but I never expected it to be so different. Something I have learned very quickly is that nothing from gymnastics transfers over, really at all, and that is scary to me. Everything about this is new and foreign, and definitely out of my comfort zone. But my partner is doing a great job in helping me through it all!

This past weekend GK endorsee Nastia Liukin was in Springfield, Missouri performing at the Missouri Winter Games. Thousands of young girls got a chance to see their gymnastic role model perform an effortless floor routine, to "Your Beautiful" by James Blunt.

During her visit to Missouri she also visited the Pededatric Unit at Cox suoth Medial Centre to meet the children who are there. Where she tried to put smiles on all the special kids facees giving them a time to look forward to, as well as some autograph photos!
