GK Elite

The Texas L6 Gymnastic Championships were held in November 2011.  Often dubbed the "Texas Olympics" by coaches around the Lone Star State, the competition doesn't disappoint. Everyday Champion and Level 6 Gymnast, Erin W., representing Flipnastics of Lakeway, Texas competed in an understated, classic and visually stunning GK gymnastics leotard.

Prior to joining GK Elite Sportswear, June owned, operated and coached artistic gymnastics at Alpha Gymnastics for 17 years.  Her gym, located in Pasadena, Texas, a suburb of Houston, was exceptionally successful.  Prior to that, she taught gymnastics, acrobatic dance, ballet, tap, jazz and ballroom dance for 12 years.  Her experience and knowledge is deeply rooted in the day-to-day operations of running a gym.

June was GK's first sales representative!  She says, "In June of 1992, I had the unique opportunity to join the GK Team.  I had always regarded GK as the most outstanding and exceptional supplier of gymnastics leotards and apparel. I was honored to be GK's first sales representative, with the exclusive right to concentrate on GK customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.  Several years later, Kansas was added to my territory.  Having been on the 'other side of the fence' for many years, I am able to contribute new ideas and offer a fresh perspective.  I've had the privilege to assist with customer education, sales and support.  Trade shows are also a favorite of mine.  My strong interest in the world of gymnastics fabrics and styles keeps me going. I thoroughly enjoy interacting with club owners.  I am fortunate to have developed many good friendships over the years."

Kiana Ross feels very fortunate to represent GK for Southern California. Prior to joining the GK Team, Kiana worked in the hotel industry for 20 years, having a supervisory role in food and beverage for six years with Starwood Hotels. Customer satisfaction has always been a high priority for Kiana, which makes her a great addition to the GK Gymnastics Sales Team.

Kiana was born and raised on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. After graduating from the University of Hawaii with a B.S. in Food Science Human Nutrition, she got married and had her first child.  While her husband, Jason, was pursuing a professional baseball career with the Atlanta Braves, Kiana and her family lived in various states in the south for several years, finally setting in Southern California near her family. Kiana now has three wonderful children, Kyla, Mckenna, and Kayne, who are her pride and joy.  Kiana stays busy representing GK and following the competitive sports activities of her children.

Two of Kiana's passions are exercise and healthy cooking.  Her free time is spent traveling with her children to wherever their sports schedules take them.  Kiana and her husband both come from large families, many of whom travel along to competitions with them.

Russian artistic gymnast and current World Champion on Floor, Ksenia Afansyeva, is featured on the January-February 2012 cover of International Gymnast Magazine.  IG has covered the sport of gymnastics for the past 51 years.

Coming off of her Gold Medal All-Around win at the Junior International Competition in Yokohama, Japan, Lexie Preissman of Cincinnati Gymnastics and current member of the Junior National Women's Gymnastics Team, recently visited GK for a competitive catalog photo shoot and a tour of the GK headquarters.  Lexie was accompanied by Rachael Tracy, currently a Cincinnati Gymnastics coach and daughter of internationally known coach, Mary Lee Tracy.  After the tour, GK spoke with Lexie and Rachel about their time at GK. 

GK:  What was your favorite part of the GK tour?

Lexie: When I saw all those gymnastics leotards hanging up in the warehouse!

Rachael: My favorite part was seeing the design process from beginning to end.  It’s really cool to see how the design starts with a piece of paper and finishes as a leotard. 

GK: What surprised you the most?

Lexie:  How many people work here and how they all have to work together.

Rachael:  It surprised me how many little steps there are and how many pieces, how things are glued down before they are sewn and all of the detail work.

GK:  What did you learn about GK? 

Lexie: I could not believe it when I saw how each little piece has to be glued down, that was my favorite part!  I learned how everyone has to sew all these little pieces together.  It’s a lot of work to make just one leo.

Rachael:  I learned that there is always so much going on here.  There are the catalog leos and special order leos.  It’s like a project that is never quite done.

GK: A couple of questions for you, Lexie... How old were you when you started gymnastics?

Lexie: I was 4½, almost five. 

GK: How did you get started in gymnastics?

Lexie: My older sister did gymnastics and my twin sister, Leah, and I would always watch her.  So, my mom just put us in not thinking I would go this far, I guess.

GK: How long have you been training?

Lexie: For about 9 years.

GK:  How long have you been an Elite gymnast?

Lexie: About 2 ½ to 3 years.

GK: What is your training schedule like?

Lexie: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8:30 to 12:30 and then 2:00 to 4:00.  Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 to 1:30 and then Saturdays 8:30 to about 1:30.

GK: Do you hope to make the 2016 Olympic team?

Lexie: Yes, that’s definitely my goal and hopefully it will happen!

GK: What do you like to do outside of the gym?

Lexie: I like to go to football games and Amelia (Hundley - also of Cincinnati Gymnastics and National Team member) and I hang out a lot and go to the movies.

Lexie Priessman and Amelia Hundley, both members of USA Gymnastics National Junior Women's Team, added to their medal count at the 2011 Junior National Championships in St. Paul, Minnesota in August of 2011. 

These talented young athletes compete as Junior International Elite Gymnasts and train at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy under coaches Mary Lee Tracy and Amy Wert.  Currently, both are in training for the 2012 season.  What did they wear for the National Championships?  GK, of course!

Elizabeth Price, a.k.a, "Ebee," is a member of the USA Gymnastics Junior National Team and can also be found modeling in the pages of GK Gymnastics Apparel catalogs.  Ebee currently resides in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania and trains at Parkettes National Gymnastics Center with coaches Bill & Donna Strauss.

Ebee recently took home 4th place on the uneven bars and tied for 5th on vault at the 2011 Visa Championships in Saint Paul, Minnesota.  At the 2011 CoverGirl Classic in Chicago, Illinois, she tied for 3rd on uneven bars.  Ebee first got involved in gymnastics because her Mom "wanted to tire me out!"  Her current goal is to make the the National Team.

GK caught up with Ebee while she was attending camp at Karolyi Ranch.  She shared her thoughts on some GK Leos while she worked out.

Mary Stepp, GK Gymnastic Sales Representative for Louisiana and Mississippi, followed a long and winding path to the GK team.  But, the challenges along the way are what continue to inspire her.  She states, "Little did I know that the time I spent as an aerobics instructor would lead me to today.  Looking back, I guess it was a natural progression into the world of dance, gymnastics and cheerleading." 

Mary's sales career began after instructing aerobics classes and eventually becoming a supervisor of over 35 other instructors.  At the time, the company that supplied the instructor uniforms asked Mary to represent their line.  After that, she worked with several dance wear companies, servicing customers in several states.  Mary now feels privileged to represent GK. 

Mary and her husband, Wade, a retired Dallas School District principal and avid cyclist, live in Mansfield, Texas.  Mary lost one son at a tender age to Leukemia.  She also has a daughter and three grandchildren whom she adores, Andrew, a senior at University of Texas, William, a high school senior and Madeleine who currently battles an autoimmune disease but continues to dance five days a  week, competes and teaches students younger than herself.  Mary states that Madeline teaches her what life is about, "Take it as it comes and be happy!"

Kylee Rogers knows a thing or two about how important having the best gymnastics leotard is for optimum performance.  Kylee was a five time Junior Olympic national qualifier and earned a full gymnastics scholarship to the University of Arkansas.  She was also an SEC Academic All-American.  Kylee holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management with a business minor from the University of Florida.

Kylee remains close to the sport of gymnastics as a broadcast analyst for Gatorvision.tv, covering all University of Florida gymnastics competitions.  Kylee can also be seen on the sidelines as an NFL cheerleader.

Melanie Walker, GK Gymnastic Sales Representative for Virginia and Maryland, knew GK leotards were the best when she began selling them at her own own gymnastics clubs in 1985.  As a coach and owner, Melanie took notice that GK leotards and apparel were always her athletes' favorite. 

With her family expanding, Melanie and her husband, Rick, sought to simplify their lives a bit leading Rick to take a coaching position in Virgina and Melanie to start a new career as the GK Gymnastics Sales Representative for Virginia starting in 2001.  Later on, her territory expanded to include Maryland.

Kelli Doorley is GK's Gymnastics Sales Representative for Rhode Island and Massachusetts.  Kelli's experience in the gymnastics industry reaches far beyond just gymnastics leotards and apparel.  She is able to assist her customers with expertise gained from her own gymnastics career and her current participation in the sport on multiple levels.

Kelli currently serves as a Chairperson for the Rhode Island USA Gymnastics State Administrative Committee as well as acting Head Coach of the University of Rhode Island Gymnastics Team.  Kelli is also the Head Coach of the North Kingstown High School Gymnastics Team and the Rhode Island High School National Team.

In addition to her coaching positions, Kelli is a USA Gymnastics Level 8 rated official and a National Federation High School official.

She is a former gymnast having represented the University of Rhode Island from 1994-1996 and Rhode Island College from 1996-1998.
