Universal Sports debuts ‘Around the Gym’ presented by AT&T’

Universal Sports will  pre- and post-competition shows called Around the Gym, presented by AT&T, which will be hosted by 2008 Olympic gold-medalist Nastia Liukin and three-time Olympian John Roethlisberger. UniversalSports.com will provide free, live simulstreams of the TV broadcasts and coverage of Universal Sports’ Around the Gym. In addition, the site will have extensive competition highlights, photos, news and blogs, plus athlete interviews and other behind-the-scenes content.

Around the Gym will provide an inside look at the competition, featuring interviews, commentary and analysis both before and after the daily events. The 30-minute shows will air LIVE starting Thursday, August 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET, prior to the first Universal Sports Network coverage, and immediately following coverage at 9:00 p.m. ET. On Friday, August 13, Around the Gym will start pre-competition coverage at 6:30 p.m. ET and post-competition at 10 p.m. ET. Universal Sports will also broadcast the show following NBC’s coverage of the women’s final day of competition on Saturday, August 14. The Visa Championships determine the U.S. champions and the national team for both the junior and senior elite levels in men’s and women’s gymnastics.

Apolo Ohno and Chris Bosh Join All-Star Team of Elite Athletes to Urge Active Americans to Rethink Their Post-Exercise Recovery Drink and Choose Lowfat Chocolate Milk

NEW YORK (August 11, 2010) – One is known for icing the competition – the other heats up the basketball court. Although they’re from completely different ends of sporting spectrum, there’s one thing these world-class athletes both agree on, lowfat chocolate milk is a “natural” at helping them recover, refuel and replenish their bodies after strenuous exercise.

Olympic Heroes Tour from August 2nd – 13th, 2010. 


The goodwill military tour features gold medalists from the Olympic Games.  These outstanding Olympic athletes will have a tremendous impact on the military personnel stationed in Iraq.  All of the participants have expressed their passion for our troops overseas.  The group visiting the troops includes:
 
Paul Hamm is a World Gymnastics Champion and three-time Olympic medalist. He first competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he finished 5th in the team event and 14th in the individual all-around competition. By the time the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens came around, he had already become the first American man to win the all-around title at the World Championships.  He was part of the United States men’s gymnastics  team who won the silver medal in the team events, and then, in come from behind fashion, won the gold in the individual all-around competition by .012 points, the closest in Olympic gymnastics history. Paul became the only American man in Olympic gymnastic history to receive a gold medal
 
Allen Johnson is a track athlete as a hurdler.

Carly Piper competed in the 2004 Summer Olympic games in Athens, Greece, where she won gold in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay with fellow teammates Natalie Coughlin, Kaitlin Sandeno, and Dana Vollmer.

Moushaumi Robinson had the best performance of her life at the most opportune time when she placed sixth in the women’s 400 meters (51.54) at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento.
 
The group are visiting numerous bases throughout Iraq as well as Kuwait.  They will be spending most of their time with soldiers from the Army, but will also be visiting servicemen and women in the Marines and Air Force.

New York City Played Host to Liukin for first JCPenney Tour Stop to Celebrate Girl Empowerment, Individuality and the Supergirl in All Young Girls

Consumer Products (WBCP), on behalf of DC Comics, JCPenney and five-time Olympic Medalist and World Champion Nastia Liukin, joined forces in New York City this past Saturday to debut an all new collection of clothing for girls called Supergirl by Nastia. The event is part of a five-market tour, visiting JCPenney stores around the country. As part of the tour, Nastia is providing young girls motivational advice on achieving their goals, feeling confident and being smart, strong and empowered—being a Supergirl. Liukin also introduced the new fun, affordable lifestyle collection, which is available exclusively at JCPenney stores nationwide.
 
Liukin was on hand to host the action-packed, kick-off event at New York’s Greeley Square Park in front of JCPenney, which featured live gymnastic exhibitions, dance performances, fashion presentations and even onsite stretching and tumbling classes for young girls. Nastia also hosted a meet and greet for attendees and prizes were awarded to lucky winners throughout the event.

“The New York kick-off event was such an incredible way to introduce Supergirl by Nastia to young girls and help communicate a message of empowerment,” said Liukin. “It was so much fun to interact with all of the girls and I am thrilled to be able to continue hosting the remaining events all across the country!”

Following Saturday’s debut in New York City, the tour is set to make additional stops in Dallas, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; and Orlando, Florida. July 21, 2010 – Universal Sports presents exclusive live coverage of the 2010 CoverGirl Classic Gymnastics Competition on Saturday, July 24 at 8 p.m. ET at the UIC Pavilion on the University of Illinois-Chicago’s campus. David Michaels, Executive Producer of Universal Sports, will be directing the production, which will feature commentators Tim Daggett, 1984 Mens gymnastics Olympic Gold Medalist, and Tasha Schwikert, 2000 Olympic Bronze Medalist.
