Future Leotard Designers Shine at USA Gymnastics Congress!

As part of the festivities at the USA Gymnastics National Congress and Tradeshow, GK Elite sponsored a Design a Leotard Contest. Applicants were able to show their design skills by sketching and coloring thier own custom gymnastics apparel. They could even add jewels and embellishments to make their designs shine!

Prizes were awarded each day of Congress to participants in different age groups. Winners received GK gift certificates and clothing prizes. One Lucky Grand Prize Winner will receive their Custom Design Gymnastics Leotard made especially for them.

The 2010 Grand Prize Winner was Macy Toronjo from Huntsville Texas and Texas Dreams Gymnastics in Coppell TX.

GK Elite Sportswear has long offered its Custom Design services for Teams. All that is needed is a basic sketch and the Design Team at GK will make it happen. Gymnastics Camp 2010 - UCLA Gymnastics - Nastia Liukin

Nastia Liukin teamed up with UCLA Gymnastics this year July 14-16 for a great summer camp program.

Nastia was on hand not just to sign autographs, but also to help out with the campers!

Special edition Leotard for Camp. Attendees could buy a special custom UCLA/Nastia Leotard commemorating the camp. The leotard was a replica from one of Nastia's signature collection. It included a special jeweled UCLA logo as well as Nastia's Signature.

New "Custom" Leotard on Make It Or Break It

In the June 20th Episode of Make It or Break It, Emily Kmetko is surprised by her mom at the beginning of the episode with a Brand New Custom Tank Leotard. It was exciting to see her open the box and the look of shock at receiving one so nice. Even better was seeing and hearing everyone's reaction at the Gym when she wore it that day, and the pride she had wearing a leotards that made her look like a Pro!

The leotard featured is the Special Order version of the 3634 IN STOCK leotard. The IN STOCK style is new for 2010, and was featured on the cover of the 2010 catalog:

It was selected by the seniors on our optional team, one member of which has a full gymnastics scholarship to the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. These pictures were taken at the 2010 Clemson Tigerpaw Classic. I scored a 9.7 for this floor routine. I won first in the floor competition and first all-around in Level 8 for my age group at this meet.

Everyday Champions - 2010 Pink Invitational~Gymnasts Unite

2010 Pink Invitational~Gymnasts Unite. What a weekend! The girls really enjoyed themselves, having the experience of competing in the sport they love, while giving to those in need. The unity of the gymnasts was absolutely inspiring. But what was equally inspiring was the outpouring of support we received from our coaching and judging community. We experienced plenty of weather obstacles on Friday, and with your generous sense of cooperation we were committed to make it work and accommodate as many girls as possible. Despite the many challenges we faced, your patience and flexibility at our event were so evident and we felt honored to work with you. Thank you for helping us make this happen. Here is an overview of the Pink Invitational.

This weekend we had over almost 1,500 girls compete from 55 gyms across the region; all wearing the same GK Elite pink leo and representing the unity that we strive for in our community.

These personalized gymnastics leotards was specially developed for the Pink Invitational using our Cotton Candy Tye Dye foil fabric with a custom glass Breast Cancer Awareness jewel on the front.

The Above and Beyond Club was yet another indication of how committed you all are to making our event a huge success, clearly making this not just our meet, but also your meet.

Twenty-two teams took the challenge and we raised close to $30,000 through car washes, sleepovers, cartwheel-a-thons and more.

The top three lead fundraisers were:

• Gym Dandy's raised $6,500
• Silvia's raised $1982.71
• NEGTC raised $1571

14 Days Until Christmas - Happy Hanukkah

Tonight begins the Jewish observance of Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. Chanukah begins on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev, but the starting date on the western calendar varies from year to year. The holiday celebrates the events which took place over 2,300 years ago in the land of Judea, which is now Israel.

About 175 BCE, in the land of Judea there was a Syrian king, Antiochus. The king ordered the Jewish people to reject their God, their religion, their customs and their beliefs and to worship the Greek gods. There were some who did as they were told, but many refused. One who refused was Judah Maccabee.

Judah and his four brothers formed an army and chose as their name the word "Maccabee", which means hammer. After three years of fighting, the Maccabees reclaimed the Temple in Jerusalem, about 165 BCE. The Maccabees wanted to clean the building and to remove the Greek symbols and statues. On the 25th day of the month of Kislev, the job was finished and the temple was rededicated.

To complete the cleansing, they lit the eternal light, known as the N'er Tamid, that needed to burn for 8 days. Only a tiny jug of olive oil was found with only enough for a single day. The oil lamp was filled and lit. Then a miracle occurred as the tiny amount of oil stayed lit not for one day, but for eight days.

Jews celebrate Chanukah to mark the victory over the Syrians and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. The Festival of the Lights, Chanukah, lasts for eight days to commemorate the miracle of the oil. The word Chanukah means "rededication".

In America, families celebrate Chanukah at home. They give and receive gifts (maybe Leotards and Gymnastics Apparel), decorate the house, entertain friends and family, eat special foods, and light the holiday menorah.

So Happy Hanukkah!

The September / October issue of Inside Gymnastics Magazine offeres a dual cover this year. Half of the issues feature a Picture of Visa Champion Bridgit Sloan and the other half saw Olympic Medalist and Visa Champion Jonathan Horton.

GK endorsee Jonathan Horton is wearing his Team USA adidas gymnastics Comp Shirt and adidas gymnastics pants.

Precious Metals - Why Mystique Fabric is So Beautiful

Base Fabric - Nylon Spandex - GK has a World renown reputation for Leotards with the stretch needed to perform in competition. The stretch of the fabrics we use is an integral part of the fit of our leotards. And before any fabric is sewn into a leotard, it must pass GK's stringent stretch requirements.

Foil Overlay - The fabric manufacturers bond metallic foil to this nylon Spandex base to create the Mystique Illusion. By looking at the picture above, you can see the tiny Foil Dots. They are applied in the non stretched position - close enough so that very little of the actual fabric underneath can be seen.

Stretched Into Position - Then when the fabric is stretched on a body, the full effect of the Mystique look can be experienced. The Fabric color shows through behind the shimmering foil for the look of gilded brilliance.

The Visa Championships is where the best of the best in American Gymnastics meet to crown the Champions of the USA and select the new US National Team. And what gymnastics apparel was the Choice of Champions at the most important event of the year?

With so many athletes in GK at the same event, it is a challenge to keep everyone looking unique and set apart. We outfitted a total of 24 clubs for this one single event (and that doesn’t even include the men’s clubs!), and there were 48 different leotard style/ color combinations and 30 warm-up styles. On Prelim night for the senior women, 18 of the 19 competitors were in GK. On Finals night, the magic number was achieved – 100% GK! The challenge now for next year is 100% both nights, while still giving everyone of them a feeling of being the best out there!

One Gymnastics Leotard Design To Fit an Entire Team

With GK Special Order Gymnastics Apparel, you can combine many different options to create your overall team look. With GK, you have Infinite Possibilities for your gymnastics team apparel.

Fabrics used for this project were: Rainforest Mystique, Black Shatterglass, Black Velvet and White Sparkle for the zig zag Trim.

Styles from Right to Left:

7520 Special Order Gymnastics Leotard with the 3/4 Sleeve option.

9000 - Special Order Leotard - This was available in a previous catalog, but not in the current catalog. It features the additional sleeve detail. Though it is not currently in our catalog, it can be ordered as a CD (Custom Design) using GK Custom Design Worksheet included with every GK Catalog. This particular style, modeled by Chellsie Memmel, features the JSL243 Crystal Accent in Jade Swarovski crystals.

7520 - No Sleeves = Modeled by Nastia Liukin, this shows a Competitive leotard design with the Sleeveless tank option. It is embellished with the J14 Neckline laser jewels and the T306 Body Jewel - both in Clear Swarovski Crystals.
