Every year, Universal Gymnastics of Lake Havasu City, NV, outfits their team in fashionable GK Camp Leotards. Looks like they had a great time this year when they attended Woodward's West Gymnastics Camp in the Tehachapi Mountains - California.

America’s Most-Liked Sports Figures; Shawn Johnson #1

Last week, Olympic Champion and GK Elite Endorsee Shawn Johnson was named Forbes Magazine Most Liked Sports Figure! Forbes saying it in print just says what we have known all along. Shawn is a Champion in Every sense of the word. And we are proud of her. Congratulations Shawn!

Americans take to sports heroes who seem trustworthy and sincere. Olympic favorite Shawn Johnson leads the pack.

Since the Olympic Games in Beijing, gold medal gymnast Shawn Johnson has played it just right. She’s been out there on the CMT Music Awards and Dancing With the Stars. She’s scored a few endorsements, including McDonald’s and Secret deodorant. But she hasn’t overdone it, hasn’t risked a crass reputation by chasing down every last endorsement nickel or showing up on every talk show.

And that’s the reason–in addition to talent of course–that Johnson is America’s most-liked sports figure, according to the latest surveys conducted by E-Poll Market Research, an Encino, Calif.-based research firm that tracks celebrity likability ratings.

“She didn’t overexpose herself after the Olympics,” says E-Poll Chief Executive Gerry Philpott of Johnson, who’s seen by the bulk of the public as “charming” and “warm,” according to the surveys.

There’s also the advantage of showing versatility: Johnson didn’t just sign up for Dancing With the Stars, she won. “You don’t do that with just athletic ability, you need a style that wins over hearts and minds,” says Philpott.

E-Poll scientifically surveyed a representative sample of 1,100 people age 13 and over. Candidates were limited to active athletes, coaches or commentators with a minimum 10% awareness rating.

The most common adjective fans use to describe their favorites: trustworthy. All exude a consistency and familiarity that leads fans to believe they’d be perfect barroom buddies or spouses, Philpott points out.

“It means they’re seen as dependable, people think ‘I can count on them,’ ” Philpott says. The key, apparently, is not biting off too much all at once. It worked for Johnson

A teen gymnast who took Olympic gold (plus three silvers) in Beijing a year ago, Johnson has continued to wow the public this year with an ESPY award from ESPN for best female U.S. Olympian while scoring endorsement deals with McDonald's and Secret deodorant, among others. Her myriad TV appearances in 2009 included award presentations at the CMT Music Award and Teen Choice Award, plus a first-place finish on ABC's Dancing With the Stars.

Regional Selections for NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships

According to USA-Gymnastics news posted this week NCAA has announced their Women’s Gymnastics Championships Regional Selection!

Six Gymnastics Teams
Five All-Around Competitors
One Individual Event Specialist

The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Lincoln, Nebraska, April 16-18, hosted by the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.

The qualifying teams and individuals are listed below. All regional will be conducted at 6 p.m. local time, Saturday, April 4.

In 2008, the University of Georgia won its fourth straight national title and its ninth overall since 1982. University of California-Los Angeles’ Tasha Schwikert, a member of the 2004 Olympic silver-medal team, won the all-around and uneven bars titles, with individual titles going to: Susan Jackson, Louisiana State University, vault; Grace Taylor, Georgia, balance beam; and Courtney McCool, Georgia (also a member of the 2004 Olympic silver medal team), floor exercise.

North Central Region - University of Iowa (Iowa City, Iowa)

Gymnastics Leotards Back Designs – RacerBack

When you are looking for a girls gymnastics leotard design that allows for flexibility, mobility and increased airflow, look to Racerback designs. The racerback was first developed in 1928 by the Speedo company to give athlete swimmers greater flexibility and movement. The design is a natural fit for gymnastics Tank leotards, where maximum mobility is an asset. It is often also called a T-Back, and is used extensively in women’s lingerie.

The racerback is usually very popular, and is well represented in GK’s Spring Essentials Gymnastics Leotards Collection.
