The Maverick All Star Tumblers' Level 5 Power Tumbling Team out of Weatherford, TX, looked great as they swept the awards stand at the State Championship in their brand new GK leotards!  The team had five individual State Champions, two team awards and even qualifiers for Nationals.  Way to go Maverick All Star Tumblers!

The gymnastics team from San Jose State University in San Jose, California needed two new leotards this season and GK Sales Representative for Northern California, Holly Thomas, was very happy to help the Spartans get some sparkle.  Holly worked with San Jose Head Coach, Wayne Wright, and Assistant Coach, Shella Martinez, on the design of the team's new gymnastics leotards.  The coaches were drawn to the affordability of Sequinz which offer jewel-like bling for a far less, budget friendly price. 

Once the decision was made to go ahead with a Sequinz design, Coach Martinez and Holly worked together on choosing GK's Basic V Neck Gymnastics Leotard 4863, a classic gymnastics competition leo, in their school colors of Rich Royal Mystique with Gold Mystique binding along the neckline.  The sleeves were shortened to 3/4 length and then the Gold Hologram Sequinz Spartan logo was created and set on the left side of the body to wrap around to the back.

GK Everyday Champions Talia B. and Madison D. love to compete in GK style!  Both gymnasts represented the Region 1 Junior B Championship team at the 2013 Women's Level 9 Western Gymnastics Chamionships in Roseville, CA.  Talia, who competes for Head Over Heels of Emeryville, CA, was victorious in her GK leotard as she claimed the All-Around title. Madison, who competes for San Mateo Gymnastics of Belmont, CA, also shined in her GK leotard as she placed 2nd in the All-Around competition.  Way to go Talia and Madison!

Madalyn Grace is a 12-year-old gymnast who currently trains at Metroplex Gymnastics in Allen, Texas.  Madalyn recently took home 1st place on Floor at the Texas State Level 6 Meet.  She also earned a 6th place title on vault and 10th on beam.  What makes Madalyn's medals all the more sweeter is the road she traveled to get them. 

Just about a year and a half ago, in September of 2011, Madalyn had a tragic fall during competition.  While performing on bars, Madalyn began to execute her fly-away dismount and things went horribly wrong.  In shock and not fully realizing the extent of her injuries, Madalyn stood up, saluted the judges, and asked her coach, "is that going to be a big deduction?"  After that, Madalyn crumpled to floor.  Realizing both of her arms were most likely broken, medical staff on site splinted and taped her arms for the trip to the hospital. 

Madalyn and her mom, Alicia, scored one heck of a driver to the hospital, none other than Nastia Liukin herself with Nastia's mom, Anna, along for the ride. Alicia said, "Anna and Nastia actually drove us to the hospital.  Anna stayed with me to get Madalyn checked in and then she and Nastia graciously went and got me something to eat and returned with food for me and a life size Minnie Mouse for Madalyn!"  Madalyn ended up having surgery on both arms three days later.

Alicia didn't know for sure if Madalyn would ever return to the sport of gymnastics, but soon Madalyn expressed how she missed the sport, she missed her friends, and she missed being in the gym, as any gymnast can relate.  Madalyn made her competition comeback in the fall of 2012 and competed as a Level 6.  Alicia said, "Madalyn overcame and conquered her fears and her doubts.  She is an inspiration to me and I am so proud of her as an athlete and as a young lady who has drive and passion. Her smile says it all."

GK Everyday Champion, Nina B., is a Level 2 AAU gymnast who trains at American Twisters in Boca Raton, Florida.  Nina is currently preparing for her upcoming state meet.  Nina just loves all of her GK leotards - especially the velvet ones!  Nina's mom tells us, "Nina works hard in the gym, loves competing, and collecting ribbons & medals.  She is our little "beast" and we hope she continues gymnastics for a long time!"

In between practice sessions for Dancing with the Stars, GK recently caught up with 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Alexandra Raisman and she gave us some of her thoughts on how gymnastics compares to ballroom dancing!

GK: How has training for Dancing with the Stars differentiated from training for the London Olympics? Are there any similarities?

AR: There aren't many similarities besides hard work!  Training for the Olympics takes years and years of hard work!  The Olympics are once in a lifetime and only come around once every four years!  The show is all about having fun!  I only have five days to learn a dance which is a huge challenge!  I love working hard, performing, and trying new things, which is why this show is so fun for me!

GK: Is it more comfortable to perform with a dress and heels rather than a leotard and barefooted?

AR: I am more comfortable competing in gymnastics because I've done it for so long.  Dancing in heels and a dress is a blast but it is very nerve-racking because I am not used to it.  Dancing is still very new to me. That being said, I love performing on the show.  It is a blast!

GK: How have you adjusted to sharing the floor with a partner?

AR: I am used to competing all by myself so working with a partner is completely different.  Instead of worrying about my tumbling, I have to make sure I am on every beat so I am in sync with my partner.  It is a huge challenge, but Mark is an amazing teacher!

GK: Will your Dancing with the Stars costumes inspire your GK leotard collection?

AR: Yes!!! I am so inspired to design new leotards! I love each and every costume I have worn.  They are all so beautiful!  Every week I get so many amazing ideas! I love how all of my costumes are fun, bright colors.  And they are so sparkly!

GK: Are there any aspects of Dancing with the Stars that you would like to bring back to the gym?

AR: Yes! I want to bring the performance level that I have on the show into my floor routine.  As a gymnast, I want to not only show great tumbling but also how I can connect with the music and how much I can show personality.

GK: How do you mentally prepare for Dancing with the Stars? How does this differ from gymnastics mental preparation?

AR: I'm always really nervous to perform on the show! We only have five days to perform completely new dances that we've never done in our life so it's a bit scary! However performing is a blast I love it so much! Hitting a good routine with Mark is such a great feeling! I prepare myself like I did gymnastics just by working hard and believing in myself

GK proudly sponsored The Nastia Liukin Cup for the fourth consecutive year.  This year's competition took place on Friday, March 1st, at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts after an exciting lead up of qualifying competitions as part of the Nastia Liukin Cup Series.  A select number of gymnasts from each invitational advanced to the Nastia Liukin Cup.  Alex McMurtry of Midlothian, Virginia/Richmond Olympiad Gymnastics, won the all-around title Friday night after an exciting come-from-behind finish. This was McMurty's third straight Nastia Liukin Cup appearance, but this year she posted a 38.450 for the win.  Aja-Monet Sims of Clermont, Florida/Brandy Johnson's, 38.175, and Samantha Partyka of Katy, Texas/Champions Gymnastics Academy, 38.075, took second and third. 

GK was excited to provide each participant with a Nastia Liukin-designed tank leotard, competition leotard, and warm-up. In addition to their gymnastics apparel, each athlete got to meet and have their photo taken with Nastia and received 2 tickets to the 2013 American Cup.  Click here for some great photographs of Nastia handing out the GK gymnastics apparel to the participants.

For training, participants received a GK tank gymnastics leotard with a classic neck line and elegant strappy back. The workout leotards were either Berry Slither with Black Mystique applique and binding, or Black Mystique with Berry Slither applique and binding.  The competition leotard followed suit with equally classic styling.  Each long sleeved leotard was either Berry Slither with Black Mystique applique or Black Mystique with Berry Slither applique.  All of the leotards were perfectly finished with the GK Nastia Liukin logo.

The athletes received a beautiful Black Velvet and Silver Mystique warm up jacket and coordinating black velvet warm-up pant.  The back of the warm up jacket was embellished with the Nastia Liukin Cup name and logo.

Proceeds from the event go to the Nastia Liukin Fund, a charitable fund within the National Gymnastics Foundation with the goal of partnering with fitness-oriented programs for young people and supporting clubs that aid athletes who need financial assistance to remain or become involved in gymnastics.

Last weekend, the newly minted women's European Tour team swept the awards at the Jesolo Trophy winning 13 individual medals in both the senior & junior competitions, including seven gold medals. At the close of the March Women's National Team Camp at the Karolyi Ranch, USAG announced the eight women selected to represent Team USA on a two week European Tour which will begin at the 2013 Jesolo Trophy on Saturday, March 23rd in Jesolo, Italy. GK was on hand immediately to deliver brand new Under Armour gymnastics leotards to the National Team for training and competition as part of its partnership with Under Armour to manufacture the National Team leotards.

The men of the U.S. National Team stepped on to the competition floor at the 2013 American Cup in new Under Armour gymnastics apparel manufactured by GK Elite Sportswear.  Jake Dalton of Reno, Nev./University of Oklahoma posted a 89.398 for the first place win.  Both Dalton and his teammate, Danell Leyva of Miami/Universal Gymnastics, looked great in their Royal Blue, White, & Navy Blue Stretchtek gymnastics apparel with both the Under Armour logo and the iconic National Team circle of stars logo.
