GK Signs Laurie Hernandez As Newest Endorsed Athlete
We are excited to announce that Laurie Hernandez will join our list of official endorsed athletes!
At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Laurie made her first Olympic debut at just 16 years old. She played a huge role in helping Team USA win Gold in the Team All Around. Hernandez also walked away with silver for her incredible balance beam performance during individual event finals. Prior to the 2016 Olympics, she was junior all-around champion at the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy competition and 2015 International Junior Japan Meet. She started her gymnastics career at the age of five under head coach Maggie Haney, MG Elite in Morganville, New Jersey.
“I am so excited and happy to be a part of GK,” says Laurie. “I’ve always loved the sparkle and fit of GK leotards, and I can’t wait for my first collection to debut!”
GK will manufacture four workout leotards and one grip bag designed by Laurie each season, beginning in January 2017. A pre-launch of her first two leotards will debut in November 2016 available at www.gkelite.com or by calling the GK Customer Service Department at 1.800.345.4087.
Chief Design Officer and EVP of Corporate Relations Kelly McKeown expressed, “We could not be happier to have Laurie join the GK family. She is a phenomenal athlete, exceptional dancer, and such a positive role model for the gymnastics community. Laurie’s genuine personality and infectious smile make working with GK a perfect fit. We are thrilled to begin our partnership with such an incredible young woman!”
Known as “The Human Emoji” for her vibrant facial expressions, Laurie has become a fan favorite. Currently, Hernandez is competing in Season 23 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, partnering with Val Chmerkovskiy. Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays 8:00 p.m. (EST) and 7:00 p.m. (CST).
